Understand our oceans Marine Ecology

Divers are often fascinated with the oceans. That’s what pushes them to explore the underwater world in the first place. However, most divers don’t actually know the science behind the world beneath the waves. Many people believe that you can have a much more fulfilling diving experience if you’re knowledgeable about underwater ecology. That’s where our Marine Ecology course can help.

Our Big Blue Marine Ecology course is your first step to becoming an underwater naturalist and a more conscientious diver.  You’ll learn how organisms in the ocean interact with each other and their environments, the energy cycle between communities, and how the different underwater ecosystems link together. Knowing more about the world you’re exploring will allow you to appreciate marine life even more.

Once you’re done with the program you’ll earn our house Marine Ecology Specialty certification, and then you can move on to some of the other conservation-related courses that Big Blue Conservation offers.

This course is a classroom-only course. If you would like to add some diving, it’s no problem!  You’ll simply be charged our fun diving rate for the number of dives you do.

Don’t forget! Because of the extra nitrogen your body builds up while scuba diving, you cannot fly within 24hrs of your last dive.
