Become a coral nerd Coral ID

Coral reefs are the building blocks of the ocean’s ecosystems. They are vitally important to the health of the oceans, as well as the health of the entire planet. Taking the Big Blue Coral ID course to start understanding more about coral species is a great way to turn you into a more Eco-conscious diver.

During our Coral ID course, you will focus on learning and understanding coral anatomy and biology, identifying coral health, and learning about diseases like coral bleaching.

In the morning, you’ll attend a series of presentations on the ecology of coral reefs and how to recognise some of the ecological interactions behind the outstanding variety of aquatic life. In the afternoon, you’ll put your new identification skills into practice in the actual ocean on two coral identification fun dives. You’ll be amazed at how much new and exciting life you’ll be able to find and identify!

In order to enrol on this course, you need to be a certified Open Water diver. Big Blue Conservation will provide all equipment, boat trips, etc., for the duration of the course.

What comes next?

• Get your Advanced certification and get certified to dive to 30 metres.
• Already certified? Book a liveaboard trip with Big Blue Diving Khao Lak to see some of the lushest corals that Thailand has to offer.

Don’t forget! Because of the extra nitrogen your body builds up while scuba diving, you cannot fly within 24hrs of your last dive.
